On 2–3 October 2025, the beautiful city of Varna hosted the Peer Review Meeting of the Danube Wood(s) Route (DWR) project – an inspiring two-day event under Activity 2.5 “Peer Review.”
The meeting brought together partners from SMART Development Center (Romania), the Association of Parks in Bulgaria, and the Varna Economic Development Agency (host partner), who joined forces with professionals from the Regional Forest Directorate Varna, Directorate of Natural Park Vrachanski Balkan, the Bulgarian Association of Alternative Tourism, the Union of Tourist Guides in Bulgaria, and other business and non-profit organizations.
During the field visits to Euxinograd Residence, Aladzha Monastery, and the Stone Forest (Pobiti Kamani), participants explored the natural and cultural treasures of Varna – the DWR project’s pilot region. They evaluated each site’s infrastructure, accessibility, and potential to enrich the Transnational Danube Wood(s) Cultural Route.
The main goal?
To evaluate and enhance the transnational route offer, build a shared vision of its innovative and high-quality experiences, and strengthen cross-border cooperation along the Danube through culture, nature, and sustainable tourism.
The Danube Wood(s) Cultural Route continues to grow as a bridge between people, forests, and cultures across the Danube region.
